You’re about to trust a stranger with your business’s first impression.
A weak site in Charleston, SC can cost you leads for years. Choose well, and that same site becomes your best salesperson.
The city’s digital scene has grown fast. A visible tech cluster now sits alongside long-established local shops. That growth gives you more choices, but it also makes the decision harder.
I reviewed 27 web design agencies in Charleston for this ranking and scored them on client reviews, pricing, and SEO capability. The data came from Clutch, DesignRush, G2, Glassdoor, Indeed, LinkedIn, and SEMrush, Google Business Profile, and Trustpilot.
The stakes are real. Too many Charleston businesses still run outdated or template-based sites. Those sites undersell how sophisticated local buyers have gotten. This ranking gives you a shortcut past that risk, built on evidence instead of guesswork.

Deep Dive: Web Design Agencies in Charleston
Each deep dive profile covers the full breakdown, so use those to compare the ones you’re actually considering.
1. Thrive Internet Marketing Agency — A fit if your web design needs come with a full marketing plan attached

- Website: thriveagency.com
- Minimum Project Cost: $1,000
- Average Client Satisfaction Rating: 4.53 (267 reviews)
- Team Size: 216 (LinkedIn)
- Years in Business: 21
- Monthly Website Visits: 660,597
- Employee Review Score: 4.70 (258 reviews)
Overview
This is a bigger operation than most agencies on this list. The team works across more than two dozen states, not just one office.
Web design here comes bundled with SEO, PPC, and social media under one roof. If you want one team handling the build and the marketing after launch, that’s the appeal. Their designers also hold Google Analytics and Ads certifications.
The team holds to a simple internal rule: don’t sell a client something they don’t need. That’s an easy line to say and a harder one to actually keep.
Lately, the agency has leaned into social video work. I noticed award recognition for a recent campaign built around it. That’s a newer strength worth knowing if video matters to your plan.
One review thread stood out to me. A client posted a harsh rating after a miscommunication. The team reached out and made it right, and the client revised the review. That kind of follow-through says something real.
This fits you if you want web design folded into a bigger marketing engine. Need a lean, design-only build instead? A smaller specialist shop might move faster.
Core Services
- WordPress Web Design
- SEO
- Social Media Marketing
- PPC & Paid Search
- Email Marketing
Why They Rank #1
- 660,597 monthly visits sets it apart from every agency here, driving much of its score.
- A 21-year track record and a 216-person team back up the traffic numbers with real scale.
- A 4.53 rating across 267 reviews shows satisfaction holds up at real volume, not just early on.
- Employees rate the agency 4.70 across 258 reviews, one of the strongest employee scores in this batch.
- A $1,000 minimum project cost keeps this agency accessible despite its size and traffic numbers.
Snapshot of Client Reviews
Project management earns specific praise across these reviews, alongside consistent notes on how functional and on-brand the finished sites turn out. A few reviewers highlight strong ROI from the broader marketing work too. I found the overall tone steady and positive, without a dominant complaint pattern.
Our Take
This fits you if you want web design bundled with a full marketing stack under one roof. It’s a stronger fit for ongoing marketing needs than for a one-off design project, given how the service mix is weighted.
2. Digital Silk — Built for brands with real budget who want bold, brand-led design

- Website: digitalsilk.com
- Minimum Project Cost: $10,000
- Average Client Satisfaction Rating: 4.12 (122 reviews)
- Team Size: 200 (LinkedIn)
- Years in Business: 11
- Monthly Website Visits: 58,636
- Employee Review Score: 3.40 (100 reviews)
Overview
This agency picked up a Forbes nod in 2024 as a top web design company. The work backs it up.
Xerox brought them in to rebuild a B2B lead-capture site. A New York menswear brand called Paul Stuart used them to modernize its online storefront.
Founder Gabriel Shaoolian writes columns for Forbes and Entrepreneur on the side. That outside visibility feeds back into how the agency pitches itself.
If you’re running an online store, their e-commerce work leans on Shopify, Magento, and WooCommerce. You get options instead of a single answer.
In 2025, they rolled out an AI-powered personalization suite for clients wanting more tailored site experiences. It’s new, so I’d ask for recent examples before assuming it’s fully proven.
If you pictured a small boutique studio, this isn’t quite that. It’s a bigger, multi-office operation with the pricing to match.
Core Services
- Custom Web Design & Development
- E-commerce Design (Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce)
- Brand Strategy & Identity
- Digital Marketing (SEO, PPC, Social)
- AI-Powered Personalization
Why They Rank #2
- 58,636 monthly visits puts it well ahead of most agencies here, though behind the traffic leaders.
- A 4.1 rating across 122 reviews is solid, but it trails several other agencies here.
- Employee reviews average 3.4 across 100 responses, the softest employee score in this batch, worth weighing.
- A $10,000 minimum project cost is higher than most agencies here, which pulls points off accessibility.
Snapshot of Client Reviews
Value comes up again and again in these reviews, alongside praise for brand depth and modern execution. One client specifically called out how easy their new CMS is to use. I didn’t find much critical feedback in the review set, which reads as one-note positive rather than balanced.
Our Take
This fits you if you want a bigger agency with real client-name credibility behind it. It won’t fit if a five-figure minimum prices you out, or if you want a scrappier, more hands-on relationship with a smaller team.
3. Designli — Suited to founders building real software, not just a marketing site

- Website: designli.co
- Minimum Project Cost: $10,000
- Average Client Satisfaction Rating: 4.98 (276 reviews)
- Team Size: 50 (LinkedIn)
- Years in Business: 13
- Monthly Website Visits: 6,547
- Employee Review Score: 5.00 (1 review)
Overview
This agency builds a lot more than websites. Half of their client work is e-commerce, and much of the rest is custom app development.
One recent project stood out to me. They built a prototype for an emotional-regulation app aimed at neurodiverse kids, done in a two-week sprint. That’s the kind of careful, specialized work this team takes on.
The two co-founders started out as app founders themselves, frustrated with agencies that overpromised and underdelivered. They built Designli to be the partner they wished they’d had.
If you’re starting from scratch, they run a guided program. It guarantees a real user on a working product within 30 days, or the next month is free. That’s a bold promise, and it signals confidence in their process.
I’d call this team closer to a specialized software studio than a typical local web shop. In 2026, they launched Engineering Intensive, a service to fix bugs and tech debt in existing products.
This fits founders building a real product, not just a marketing site. A straightforward business website alone may mean paying for more teams than you need.
Core Services
- Custom Web & App Design (UX/UI)
- Mobile App Development
- SaaS Platform Development
- Web Development
- Product Strategy & MVP Development
Why They Rank #3
- A 4.98 rating across 276 reviews is one of the strongest client satisfaction showings in this ranking.
- A $50 hourly rate is among the lowest in this batch, which helps its accessibility score.
- Employee satisfaction scores a perfect 5.00, though from just one review, so it carries limited weight.
- 6,547 monthly visits is modest next to the traffic leaders here, which caps its Brand Authority score.
Snapshot of Client Reviews
A perfect client rating across 276 reviews is rare at this volume, and the pattern holds even in a small sample of employee feedback. I couldn’t find much public detail on specific complaints, which itself is notable given how many reviews exist here.
Our Take
This fits you if your project is closer to software than a simple brochure site. It’s a weaker fit if you just want a straightforward business website, since their pricing and process are built for bigger, more technical builds.
4. Lounge Lizard — A fit for businesses prioritizing design pedigree over a tight budget

- Website: loungelizard.com
- Minimum Project Cost: $25,000
- Average Client Satisfaction Rating: 4.77 (79 reviews)
- Team Size: 58 (LinkedIn)
- Years in Business: 28
- Monthly Website Visits: 3,234
- Employee Review Score: 4.20 (32 reviews)
Overview
This team built two new casino websites for a Colorado client. The client came away impressed with both the design and the follow-through.
I noticed that the same client singled out the creative and technical teams by name in their review. They praised the communication throughout. Reviews with that level of detail are rare, and worth noticing.
Founder Ken Braun judges the Webby Awards and writes for Forbes on the side. That says something about how seriously the design world takes this agency’s work.
The agency grew from a small late-night crew into a firm with offices nationwide. That’s real staying power in an industry where many shops don’t survive past a few years.
With that many offices, you’re not dealing with a single small team. You’re tapping into a nationally distributed agency with real depth on both the creative and technical side.
If you expected a small boutique operation given how personal their culture feels, this is bigger than that. The minimum project cost reflects that scale too.
Core Services
- Custom Web Design & Development
- Branding & Visual Identity
- Digital Marketing (SEO, PPC)
- E-commerce Website Development
- Mobile App Development (Android, iOS)
Why They Rank #4
- 28 years in business is the longest track record of any agency in this batch.
- A 4.77 rating across 79 reviews holds up well, even without a huge review volume behind it.
- A $25,000 minimum project cost and $150 hourly rate both pull real points off the accessibility score.
- 3,234 monthly visits is modest, and that gap is the main thing holding back an otherwise strong profile.
Snapshot of Client Reviews
One theme runs through these reviews: a genuinely collaborative process, not just a finished product handed over. Several clients specifically credit the team’s communication style. I didn’t come across much critical feedback, though the review sample here is smaller than some other agencies on this list.
Our Take
This fits you if budget isn’t the deciding factor and you want a design-heavy, full-service agency with real longevity behind it. It’s a tougher sell on a smaller budget, given the $25,000 minimum.
5. UPQODE — Suited to businesses that want WordPress expertise without enterprise pricing

- Website: upqode.com
- Minimum Project Cost: $5,000
- Average Client Satisfaction Rating: 4.93 (148 reviews)
- Team Size: 48 (LinkedIn)
- Years in Business: 11
- Monthly Website Visits: 4,857
- Employee Review Score: 4.80 (4 reviews)
Overview
WordPress is where this team is strongest. They also build on Shopify and Webflow, depending on what a project calls for.
One WordPress theme they built has sold more than 500 times on ThemeForest. That tells you their code holds up outside custom client work too.
Their strategy and project management stay based in Nashville. A good part of the engineering work happens with a team based in Europe. It’s a hybrid setup, and based on the review volume, I’d say it works for them.
The agency actually grew out of a university programming project before turning into a full digital shop. That technical-first origin still shows in how code-focused their work reads today.
One thing to know going in: their monthly traffic numbers are modest next to some other names here. If SEO firepower matters more to you than raw web design chops, weigh that.
Core Services
- Custom WordPress Web Design
- Shopify & Webflow Development
- E-commerce (WooCommerce)
- SEO & Digital Marketing
- Website Maintenance & QA
Why They Rank #5
- A 4.93 rating across 148 reviews is one of the strongest client satisfaction combinations in this batch.
- A $5,000 minimum project cost keeps this agency more accessible than several others here.
- Employee satisfaction sits at 4.80, but from just 4 reviews, so it’s a thin sample worth noting.
- 4,857 monthly visits is modest, and that’s the main thing holding back an otherwise well-rounded score.
Snapshot of Client Reviews
Responsiveness is the word that keeps showing up here. Multiple reviewers single out how quickly the team adapts to change requests mid-project. WordPress expertise gets mentioned almost as often. The overall tone reads consistently positive, without much pushback in what I found.
Our Take
This fits you if you want WordPress expertise without a big price tag, especially when your project needs fast turnarounds on changes. It may not fit if you want a single, fully domestic team handling every part of the build.
6. Stingray Branding — A fit for small local businesses wanting an affordable, hands-on partner

- Website: stingraybranding.com
- Minimum Project Cost: $1,000
- Average Client Satisfaction Rating: 4.90 (67 reviews)
- Team Size: 6 (LinkedIn)
- Years in Business: 18
- Monthly Website Visits: 419
- Employee Review Score: 4.50 (13 reviews)
Overview
Every WordPress site here gets built from scratch. No themes, no reused templates, just original work each time.
One client uses their photo and video work to put faces to a 140-person team on social media. Another has stuck with them since 2016, covering web, social, and email under one contract.
Their e-commerce work is led by two named specialists, not a rotating cast. I’d call that useful for a build that needs long-term upkeep.
Rates here stay deliberately low. The agency built its whole model around serving startups and small local businesses on tight budgets. A Charleston native started the shop with exactly that mission in mind.
With a six-person team, you’re not getting a large agency’s bench. Their traffic numbers reflect that smaller footprint.
Core Services
- Custom WordPress Web Design
- Branding & Logo Design
- Social Media Management
- SEO
- E-commerce Websites
Why They Rank #6
- A 4.90 rating across 67 reviews is one of the strongest showings in this ranking.
- A $1,000 minimum and a $50 hourly rate make this one of the most accessible agencies on this list.
- 18 years in business gives real staying power for a team this size.
- 419 monthly visits is the lowest in this batch, which limits its Brand Authority score.
Snapshot of Client Reviews
Reviewers keep coming back to responsiveness and how patient the team is through revisions. Several mention sticking with the agency across multiple projects over the years. I didn’t find much critical feedback in what’s publicly available, which reads as a small but loyal client base.
Our Take
This fits you if you’re a small local business that wants an affordable, hands-on partner. It’s a weaker fit if you need a bigger bench for a large, complex build.
7. SapientPro — For businesses wanting custom software expertise at a European price point

- Website: sapient.pro
- Minimum Project Cost: $5,000
- Average Client Satisfaction Rating: 4.95 (58 reviews)
- Team Size: 67 (LinkedIn)
- Years in Business: 10
- Monthly Website Visits: 510
- Employee Review Score: 4.80 (5 reviews)
Overview
One client has worked with this team for more than five years. The project is a platform used across Europe for freelance content talent.
Another client did the math: hiring an in-house team in Switzerland would run about $400,000 a year. They called this agency ridiculously cost-effective by comparison.
The team says it hires for more than technical skill, looking for developers who are also “nice people and team players,” as the company puts it.
A perfect 5/5 Clutch score backs that up. Still, I’d weigh a single platform’s rating alongside everything else here.
If you expected a Charleston-area shop, this isn’t that. It’s a European software team that happens to build websites as part of a bigger practice.
Core Services
- Custom Software Development
- MVP & SaaS Development
- Web & E-commerce Development
- AI Integration
- QA & Software Testing
Why They Rank #7
- A perfect 4.95 rating across 58 reviews is one of the strongest client satisfaction marks in this ranking.
- A $25 hourly rate is the lowest in this batch, which helps its accessibility score significantly.
- A 67-person team is sizable for an agency this far down the ranking, adding real Brand Authority weight.
- 510 monthly visits is modest, and that traffic gap holds back an otherwise strong score.
Snapshot of Client Reviews
Cost efficiency is the theme that comes up most in these reviews, especially from clients comparing this to hiring in-house locally. A few reviewers also single out how quickly the team responds to spec changes. I found the tone consistently positive across the sample.
Our Take
This fits you if you want custom software expertise at a lower price point than local or US-based teams. It’s a weaker fit if you specifically want a design-first, visually led web build.
8. Matchstick Social — For businesses that want social strategy and real Charleston market knowledge

- Website: matchsticksocial.com
- Minimum Project Cost: $1,000
- Average Client Satisfaction Rating: 5.00 (70 reviews)
- Team Size: 14 (LinkedIn)
- Years in Business: 13
- Monthly Website Visits: 1,452
- Employee Review Score: 4.60 (13 reviews)
Overview
This team has been voted Charleston’s Best Marketing Company more than once. Most recently, they picked up a 2025 award recognizing women in business.
They lean hard into local knowledge. The team talks openly about the difference between a Mount Pleasant audience and a Summerville one. They build campaigns around that gap.
One health coaching client reported measurable progress toward its growth goals within months of working with the agency. Another client uses the team’s photo and video work to put faces to a 140-person organization on social media.
The agency opened on King Street back in 2013, born out of a rebrand from a Pittsburgh-based company. It’s grown into a full-service shop since, though social media still leads.
The one thing to weigh: web design is a smaller slice of what they do. If a full custom build is your main need, ask how much of that happens in-house.
Core Services
- Social Media Strategy & Management
- Branding
- Website Design & Development
- SEO
- Email Marketing
Why They Rank #8
- A perfect 5.00 rating across 70 reviews is one of the strongest client satisfaction marks in this ranking.
- 1,452 monthly visits is solid for a team this size, helping its Brand Authority score.
- A $1,000 minimum project cost keeps this agency highly accessible despite its strong ratings.
- Employees rate the agency 4.60 across 13 reviews, a solid score from a small internal team.
Snapshot of Client Reviews
Effective social strategy comes up constantly here, especially around Facebook and Instagram campaigns. Reviewers also point to strong project management and clear communication. Lead generation and brand awareness gains get mentioned by name in more than one review.
Our Take
This fits you if social media and local market knowledge matter as much as the website itself. It’s a weaker fit if a large, complex custom build is your primary need.
9. TRIARE, LLC — Suited to a bigger software build alongside your site, not a design-only project

- Website: triare.net
- Minimum Project Cost: $10,000
- Average Client Satisfaction Rating: 4.93 (49 reviews)
- Team Size: 53 (LinkedIn)
- Years in Business: 11
- Monthly Website Visits: 630
- Employee Review Score: 5.00 (3 reviews)
Overview
Every project here follows the same cycle: discovery, planning, build, QA, then release and ongoing support. It’s a structured process, not an improvised one.
Their values come down to three words: Responsibility, Respect, Relationships. That’s the actual framework they say guides how the team works.
I noticed one reviewer credited the founder personally for quick, thoughtful answers. That’s not an account manager passing questions along, and it’s unusual at this size.
The team is based in Europe, with additional offices spread across a few more countries. This isn’t a single local shop, it’s a distributed technical team.
The tradeoff worth knowing: web design is a small slice of what they do. It’s just 10% of their focus, with most work centered on custom software.
Core Services
- Custom Web Development
- Mobile App Development
- Software Development
- UX/UI Design
- QA & Software Testing
Why They Rank #9
- A 53-person team is one of the larger operations in this batch, adding real weight to its Brand Authority score.
- A 4.93 rating across 49 reviews holds up well at a decent volume.
- A $25 hourly rate is among the lowest in this batch, helping its accessibility score.
- 630 monthly visits is modest, and that gap limits an otherwise solid profile.
Snapshot of Client Reviews
Reliability is the word that surfaces most often in these reviews, alongside praise for how responsive the team stays through a project. A few reviewers specifically credit direct access to leadership. The sample is smaller than some other agencies here, but consistent.
Our Take
This fits you if you want a technical, process-driven partner for a bigger software build alongside your site. It’s a weaker fit if web design specifically, not software, is your main goal.
10. Lform Design — Built for manufacturers and industrial B2B companies, not consumer brands

- Website: lform.com
- Minimum Project Cost: $25,000
- Average Client Satisfaction Rating: 4.87 (80 reviews)
- Team Size: 14 (LinkedIn)
- Years in Business: 21
- Monthly Website Visits: 3,116
- Employee Review Score: 4.50 (7 reviews)
Overview
This agency builds almost exclusively for B2B manufacturers. That’s an unusually specific focus compared to most names on this list.
I noticed one project that rebuilt a commercial refrigeration equipment maker’s site. It was specific enough that the team later filmed a public review breaking down the work.
Their whole pitch centers on longevity. Sites get built to evolve with a business, not to need a costly rebuild in a few years.
The team is fully in-house, with no outsourcing. That’s a deliberate choice, meant to keep quality control tight.
The agency actually started in 2005. The founder grew up just outside the town where it’s still based. That kind of continuity is rare in this industry.
If you don’t sell to manufacturers, this probably isn’t the right fit. Their whole practice is built around one kind of client.
Core Services
- Custom Web Design for Manufacturers
- WordPress Development
- SEO & Content Strategy
- Inbound Marketing
- Branding
Why They Rank #10
- A 4.87 rating across 80 reviews is one of the stronger client satisfaction combinations in this batch.
- 21 years in business is among the longest track records in this ranking.
- A $25,000 minimum project cost and $150 hourly rate both pull real points off the accessibility score.
- 3,116 monthly visits is solid, adding real weight to its Brand Authority score.
Snapshot of Client Reviews
Clients specifically call out how well the finished site captured their original vision, session after session. Several reviews also single out strong project management as a differentiator. The sample skews heavily toward B2B manufacturing, which tracks with their focus.
Our Take
This fits you if you’re a manufacturer or industrial B2B company that wants a specialist, not a generalist. It’s a weaker fit for consumer brands or anyone outside their core focus.
11. Pyxl — For businesses needing strategy and technical depth, not just visual design

- Website: pyxl.com
- Minimum Project Cost: $25,000
- Average Client Satisfaction Rating: 4.60 (23 reviews)
- Team Size: 31 (LinkedIn)
- Years in Business: 18
- Monthly Website Visits: 889
- Employee Review Score: 3.70 (72 reviews)
Overview
This agency has real depth in healthcare and other regulated industries. That’s a more technical, compliance-aware kind of client than most names on this list.
They’ve also built out AI-driven marketing services recently, layered on top of their core strategy and design work.
Their approach spans the full funnel: strategy, UX, development, and paid media. They also handle CRM integration with platforms like HubSpot and Salesforce.
The CEO has an unusual side credit. He’s also a published book author, which isn’t something you see in most agency bios.
Employee reviews mostly praise the culture and leadership. I did find at least one sharply negative review too, so the experience isn’t universal.
This fits you if your project needs a partner comfortable with regulated, complex industries. It’s a heavier lift for a simple site.
Core Services
- Custom Web & Application Development
- UX/UI Design
- Digital Marketing Strategy
- CRM & MarTech Integration
- AI-Driven Marketing
Why They Rank #11
- 18 years in business and a 31-person team give this agency real scale and Brand Authority weight.
- A $25,000 minimum project cost and $150 hourly rate are both on the higher end, pulling real points off the accessibility score.
- A 4.60 rating across 23 reviews is solid, though the review volume is lighter than some other agencies here.
- Employee satisfaction sits at 3.70 across 72 reviews, a lower score but backed by real volume.
- 889 monthly visits is modest, limiting its overall Brand Authority score.
Snapshot of Client Reviews
Client reviews lean heavily positive, praising methodical workflows and actionable insights on bigger, more complex projects. Employee reviews are more mixed, with strong praise for culture sitting next to at least one sharply critical account. I’d weigh both sides before assuming either tells the whole story.
Our Take
This fits you if your project needs real strategy and technical depth behind the design work, not just visuals. It’s a weaker fit if you want something lean, fast, and budget-friendly instead.
12. Trango Tech — Suited to projects that need real app-development depth, not just a design team

- Website: trangotech.com
- Minimum Project Cost: $1,000
- Average Client Satisfaction Rating: 4.38 (70 reviews)
- Team Size: 49 (LinkedIn)
- Years in Business: 23
- Monthly Website Visits: 7,850
- Employee Review Score: N/A
Overview
This team has built native apps for government and enterprise clients across the Gulf region. Some of that work ties to major state-backed projects.
One construction-industry client saw downloads jump five times over after a rebuild, with engagement climbing right alongside it.
Forbes and Business of Apps have both named them a top app development company. That recognition lines up with the scale of their client roster.
Their strength runs deeper than cross-platform builds. They employ dedicated native iOS and Android specialists, not just generalists.
This isn’t a small shop. It’s part of a global operation with well over a thousand employees across multiple countries.
This fits you if your project needs app-development muscle behind the website, not just a design team. It’s overkill for a simple brochure site.
Core Services
- Native iOS & Android App Development
- Custom Web Development
- E-commerce Development
- UX/UI Design
- Staff Augmentation
Why They Rank #12
- 7,850 monthly visits is one of the highest in this entire ranking, driving a major share of its score.
- 23 years in business and a 49-person team add real weight to its Brand Authority score.
- A $25 hourly rate and $1,000 minimum project cost make this one of the most accessible agencies on this list.
- A 4.38 rating across 70 reviews is solid at real volume.
Snapshot of Client Reviews
Communication comes up as the strongest theme here. Workflows stay simple and clear, often using tools like Slack and Trello. Several reviewers mention a real willingness to adapt based on feedback. I found the tone positive throughout, without a clear recurring complaint.
Our Take
This fits you if your project genuinely needs app-development depth alongside the website itself, not just visual polish. It’s a weaker fit if web design specifically, not custom software, is your main goal.
13. Colophon New Media — For businesses wanting a small, local, long-term web partner

- Website: cnmwebsite.com
- Minimum Project Cost: $5,000
- Average Client Satisfaction Rating: 5.00 (58 reviews)
- Team Size: 7 (LinkedIn)
- Years in Business: 23
- Monthly Website Visits: 92
- Employee Review Score: N/A
Overview
One long-term client relies on them for the full package: build, hosting, maintenance, and ongoing marketing.
Being based in Charleston shapes how they pitch themselves. They talk openly about understanding the local competitive landscape, not just building generic sites.
Their own framing is simple: the internet runs on code, but it’s still built by people. That’s the line they lead with.
New leadership took over in 2024, arriving from Tesla, Deloitte, and Milliken. That’s an unusual career path into a small Charleston web shop.
The agency itself dates back to 2003. It was started by a former Oxford University Press web developer with a teaching background.
I’d flag team size as the real tradeoff here. With a seven-person operation, don’t expect the bench of a larger regional agency.
Core Services
- Custom WordPress Web Design
- Web Hosting
- Website Maintenance
- SEO & Paid Media
- Digital Marketing
Why They Rank #13
- A perfect 5.00 rating across 58 reviews is one of the strongest client satisfaction marks in this ranking.
- 23 years in business is among the longest track records in this entire ranking.
- 92 monthly visits is the lowest in this batch, which significantly limits its Brand Authority score.
- A 7-person team is among the smallest in this ranking, which also weighs on its Brand Authority score.
Snapshot of Client Reviews
This is one of the highest client satisfaction scores in the entire ranking. It holds up across a genuinely healthy review count too. I couldn’t find much public criticism anywhere. That reads as a small, consistently satisfied client base, not an inflated number.
Our Take
This fits you if you want a small, local, long-term web partner rather than a big agency roster. It’s a weaker fit if your project needs a larger team’s bandwidth.
14. VIP Marketing — Built for law firms and similar professional practices, not general small business

- Website: vipmarketing.com
- Minimum Project Cost: $5,000
- Average Client Satisfaction Rating: 4.95 (106 reviews)
- Team Size: 9 (LinkedIn)
- Years in Business: 17
- Monthly Website Visits: 4,431
- Employee Review Score: 3.70 (10 reviews)
Overview
This agency has built its practice specifically around law firm marketing. That’s a narrower focus than most names on this list.
One long-running client is a family-owned Ford dealership that’s operated in the Charleston area since 1967. The agency helped grow both foot traffic and sales.
Every campaign starts with a structured planning step: who, what, when, where, and why. Creative work comes after.
Expertise has recognized them as a top legal marketing agency. That tracks with how heavily they lean into the niche.
Despite the Charleston base, their law firm clients span the entire country, not just South Carolina.
The one thing to weigh: I’d flag their hourly rate as the highest in this ranking. That specialization comes at a real cost.
Core Services
- Website Design & Development
- SEO
- Google Ads / SEM
- Brand Strategy & Identity
- Video Production
Why They Rank #14
- A perfect 4.95 rating across 106 reviews is one of the strongest client satisfaction combinations in this ranking.
- 4,431 monthly visits is solid, adding real weight to its Brand Authority score.
- A $300 hourly rate is the highest in this entire ranking, which pulls significant points off its accessibility score.
- Employee satisfaction sits at 3.70 across 10 reviews, a lower score worth weighing.
Snapshot of Client Reviews
Results-focused language shows up repeatedly in these reviews, especially around lead generation and case volume for law firm clients. One long-term automotive client specifically credits the team for proactive, fast-moving campaign work. The tone stays consistently positive across the sample.
Our Take
This fits you if you’re a law firm or similar professional practice that wants a specialist. It’s a weaker fit if the budget is tight, given the highest hourly rate in this ranking.
15. Ajroni — For businesses wanting a young, high-output team with a strict no-template policy

- Website: ajroni.com
- Minimum Project Cost: $1,000
- Average Client Satisfaction Rating: 4.63 (146 reviews)
- Team Size: 12 (LinkedIn)
- Years in Business: 9
- Monthly Website Visits: 1,314
- Employee Review Score: N/A
Overview
This team has shipped more than 500 websites across over 30 industries. That’s a volume most agencies this size don’t reach.
Their pitch is blunt: no templates, no outsourcing, no inflated metrics. Every project gets built from scratch in-house.
They’ve been recognized among Florida’s top web design and development companies. A perfect rating across their reviews backs that up.
The founder actually started young, building monetized blog sites at 17 before launching the agency itself at 24.
If you expected a brand-new shop given the founder’s age, this isn’t that. I’d call the track record here more established than the backstory suggests.
Core Services
- Custom Web Design & Development
- Mobile App Development (iOS & Android)
- SEO
- UI/UX Design
- Digital Marketing
Why They Rank #15
- A 4.63 rating across 146 reviews is strong, backed by one of the higher review volumes in this ranking.
- A $1,000 minimum project cost keeps this agency highly accessible despite its strong ratings.
- 1,314 monthly visits is solid for a team this size, helping its Brand Authority score.
- 9 years in business is on the newer side compared to most agencies in this ranking.
Snapshot of Client Reviews
Fast turnarounds get mentioned constantly across this review set, especially on requested mid-project changes. The volume here is genuinely high for an agency this size. Overall tone stays consistently positive throughout.
Our Take
This fits you if you want a young, high-output team with a strict no-template policy. It’s a weaker fit if you specifically want decades of institutional history behind the build.
16. Fu Dog Media — For businesses wanting a small, personable shop with real local flavor

- Website: fudogmedia.net
- Minimum Project Cost: $5,000
- Average Client Satisfaction Rating: 5.00 (118 reviews)
- Team Size: 12 (LinkedIn)
- Years in Business: 15
- Monthly Website Visits: 109
- Employee Review Score: N/A
Overview
One of their more memorable projects was a full package for a well-known regional restaurant. Photography, video, and a new website, all at once.
I noticed one client specifically praised the designer’s personal instinct as an artist, not just his technical skill. That’s an unusual thing to call out in a review.
Their team lead’s own title jokes about ‘web domination,’ which tells you something about the tone here. Playful, not overly corporate.
Projects typically wrap in four to eight weeks, a fairly quick turnaround for a full custom build. They’ve also picked up newer answer-engine-optimization services alongside standard SEO.
The team itself is spread beyond South Carolina, even though the agency reads as a small, local-feel shop.
The tradeoff worth knowing: their traffic numbers are the lowest in this batch. Weigh that against everything else here.
Core Services
- Custom WordPress Web Design
- Photography & Videography
- SEO & Answer Engine Optimization
- Social Media Marketing
- Paid Advertising (PPC)
Why They Rank #16
- A perfect 5.00 rating across 118 reviews is one of the strongest client satisfaction marks in this entire ranking.
- 15 years in business gives this agency real staying power for its size.
- 109 monthly visits is among the lowest in this ranking, which significantly limits its Brand Authority score.
- A 12-person team is modest, which also caps its Brand Authority score alongside traffic.
Snapshot of Client Reviews
Personality comes through in these reviews more than most, with clients specifically praising the designer’s creative instinct. Turnaround speed and communication also get repeated mentions. The sample is smaller than some other agencies here, but consistently warm.
Our Take
This fits you if you want a small, personable shop with real local flavor. It’s a weaker fit if visibility and traffic numbers matter more to you than the relationship itself.
Disclosure: Our recommendations include both locally headquartered agencies and offshore firms that provide services in this region. Some agencies featured do not maintain a physical office here but have an established track record of delivering services to clients in the area.
How to Narrow Down Your Web Design Agency Options
Only the agencies carefully picked made this list, but not all of them fit your business. Here’s what actually separates a good hire from a bad one.
1. Evaluate the Portfolio, Not the Pitch
Pull up an agency’s last five projects on your phone. If three look dated or load slow, that tells you more than any pitch deck. A portfolio full of near-identical templates signals limited UI/UX Design thinking, not versatility.
2. Get Real Pricing Up Front
Ask for an actual quote before you sign anything. Vague pricing on a project this size is a red flag, not a negotiating tactic. If an agency won’t give you a range up front, they’re hiding something worth knowing.
3. Confirm They Build SEO In, Not On
A site that looks good but doesn’t rank isn’t doing its job. Ask how SEO gets built into the site itself, not bolted on after launch. If they can’t explain that clearly, keep looking.
4. Test How They Communicate Before You Hire
Ask how they handle a missed deadline before you ever sign a contract. That one answer tells you more than any sales call. You want a project lead who replies the same day, not the same week.
5. Check That the Build Can Grow With You
Charleston’s tech and startup scene keeps expanding, and your site should be able to keep up with it. Ask if the agency builds on a platform that can add features later without a full rebuild. A site that can’t scale becomes a problem fast.
6. Look for Real Local Expertise
Charleston isn’t one neighborhood. It’s Mount Pleasant, West Ashley, North Charleston, Summerville, and other pockets your customers actually live in.
Ask if the agency understands how spread out that footprint really is. Treating the whole metro like one downtown market means missing half your customers.
Common Mistakes to Avoid When Hiring Web Design Agencies in Charleston
Hiring the wrong agency costs more than the invoice. Here’s where Charleston business owners get burned the most.
1. Choosing Based on Price Alone
The cheapest quote usually means the cheapest build. You’ll pay for it again in six months when the site needs a real rebuild. Compare value against typical website design costs, not just the number on the proposal.
2. Skipping the Portfolio Review
A slick sales deck isn’t proof of good work. Ask to see three live sites they built in the last year, not screenshots from 2021. If they can’t produce that, that’s your answer.
3. Ignoring Local SEO
Most Charleston searches don’t just say Charleston. They say Mount Pleasant, West Ashley, or Summerville. An agency that treats local SEO as just the city name misses where your customers actually search.
4. Not Checking Reviews Closely
Charleston buyers cross-reference Google and review sites more than most markets before they reach out. If you skip that step yourself, you’re skipping exactly what your future customers won’t.
5. Overlooking Mobile Design
Mobile and near-me searches run high across this spread-out metro. Mobile-first isn’t a buzzword here. It’s just good Web Design in 2026.
6. Skipping a Support Plan
Charleston’s tourist season swings hard, and content that goes stale during it costs you real business. Ask about their website maintenance plan and how fast they respond. No answer means no plan.
7. Assuming One Site Fits the Whole Metro
Charleston’s suburbs are growing faster than the peninsula right now. A site built only for downtown customers misses the businesses now moving to Summerville and Goose Creek.
What to Keep in Mind
You don’t need to read all the web design agency profiles top to bottom. Start with the top 3 to 5. Then narrow based on what matters most: budget, specialization, or local reach.
Charleston’s suburbs are growing faster than downtown right now, especially in Summerville, Goose Creek, and Mount Pleasant.
That growth means more competition for local attention, not less. It’s worth asking any agency you’re considering how they’d handle that spread.
Whichever agency you choose, ask for recent, live examples of their work before signing anything. A portfolio from three years ago doesn’t tell you much about how a team builds today.
How We Research and Rank the Agencies
Why This Ranking Is Different
Most web design agency roundups run on editorial opinion, self-reported claims, or paid placement. We built this one differently. Every agency gets scored against the same framework, using the same public data sources.
We call these web design agencies serving Charleston, SC, not agencies in Charleston. Some are headquartered locally. Others are national or offshore firms with real Charleston client work.
Physical location isn’t a ranking factor, unless it’s built into the scoring model below. No agency earns points for being local. None paid for a spot on this list.
Two kinds of information shape each profile. Scored metrics set the numerical rank. Qualitative research includes service pages, portfolios, case studies, and notable clients.
It also includes awards, partnerships, certifications, technical expertise, local presence, proprietary processes, and media mentions.
All of it helps us understand and describe an agency, but it doesn’t change the score. Only the weighted metrics below do that. The same rule governs every Why They Rank section further down.
Where Your Data Comes From
We collected the data independently during 2026.
Multiple sources feed the numbers behind this ranking. SEMrush gives us estimated monthly website traffic. Clutch, DesignRush, G2, Google Business Profile, and Trustpilot give us client ratings and review counts.
Glassdoor and Indeed cover employee ratings and employee review volume. LinkedIn confirms agency team size. Agency websites and other public sources round out services, pricing, hourly rates, minimum project size, and business history.
We also reviewed service pages, portfolios, case studies, and public client examples. We checked awards, partnerships, certifications, and other public materials too. This confirms web design capabilities and gives each profile real context.
Unless represented by one of the weighted metrics below, these qualitative findings do not affect the numerical score.
The Five Dimensions That Shape Your Rankings
Each agency is scored across five weighted areas. Positive categories add points, while pricing metrics apply deductions for higher cost barriers.
1. Web Design Focus & Value Assessment (20%)
This category measures how central web design work is to an agency’s business. It also looks at how clients rate the value they got for the price.
| Metric | Weight | How We Calculated It |
| Web Design Focus | 10% | Web design appeared as a core agency service |
| Client Rating for Cost | 10% | Average cost/value rating from selected review platforms |
Agencies benefit when web design work is a meaningful part of their business. They also benefit when clients consistently report strong value for the price. Portfolio quality, awards, and technical expertise don’t factor into this score.
2. Brand Authority (45%)
Brand Authority measures visibility, scale, and how long an agency has been operating.
| Metric | Weight | How We Calculated It |
| Website Traffic | 20% | Higher estimated SEMrush traffic contributed more points |
| LinkedIn Team Size | 15% | Larger teams contributed more points |
| Years in Business | 10% | Longer operating histories contributed more points |
These metrics act as comparative signals of market presence, delivery capacity, and operating stability. A bigger footprint isn’t automatically a better fit for your project.
3. Client Satisfaction (30%)
This category combines rating quality with review volume.
| Metric | Weight | How We Calculated It |
| Average Client Rating | 15% | Combined ratings from selected review platforms |
| Total Client Reviews | 15% | Greater review volume added more confidence to the score |
A high rating backed by hundreds of reviews carries real weight. That same rating from just a handful of reviews carries less. Review themes live in each profile’s Snapshot of Client Reviews, not in this score.
4. Employee Satisfaction (25%)
Employee sentiment gives an added signal about how stable an organization actually is.
| Metric | Weight | How We Calculated It |
| Average Employee Rating | 10% | Average rating from Glassdoor and Indeed |
| Number of Employee Reviews | 15% | Greater review volume reduced the influence of very small samples |
Both the rating and how many employees left one factor into the score. We don’t draw conclusions about turnover or morale beyond what the data itself shows.
5. Cost Accessibility Adjustment (-20%)
This is the only category that subtracts points instead of adding them.
| Metric | Weight | How We Calculated It |
| Hourly Rate | -10% | Higher hourly rates received larger deductions |
| Minimum Project Cost | -10% | Higher entry costs reduced accessibility scores |
This deduction doesn’t mean a pricier agency does worse work. It only reflects how accessible each agency is across a wider range of budgets. Combined, the deduction can pull up to 20 points off a score.
How the Final Score Works
Each metric gets normalized, weighted, and combined into a score out of 100.
Positive metrics can add up to 120 points total. The Cost Accessibility Adjustment can then subtract up to 20 points. That’s based on hourly rate and minimum project cost.
No single metric decides where an agency lands. A larger agency might score well on traffic, team size, or years in business.
A smaller one might win on client satisfaction, employee sentiment, web design focus, or affordability instead.
Only the weighted metrics above move the score. Awards, clients, partnerships, certifications, and case studies can all appear in a profile.
So can portfolio quality, local presence, technical expertise, proprietary processes, and media mentions. None of them change where an agency ranks.
This framework lets us compare agencies fairly, no matter their size, pricing model, or market position.
Note: All rankings and scores are based solely on publicly available data collected at the time of publication. These rankings reflect the market landscape at the time of publication. Although individual metrics may change over time, the evaluation framework prioritizes long-term capability signals, making major ranking fluctuations unlikely.
